Principal's Message
Preston West Primary is located in a residential area of Darebin in close proximity to the Preston Market and High Street shopping precinct. The main school is a double storey brick building that was built in 1915.
The addition of a gymnasium/performing arts centre, two storey portable building,surrounding landscaped gardens and a dry creek river bed are fantastic assets to the school. Preston West Primary has a rich history of educational excellence serving the community for 100 years.
We are extremely proud of our reputation for providing a comprehensive and challenging curriculum, academic excellence, valuable friendships and catering for each individual. Our purpose is to provide a safe, stimulating and supportive environment that develops all students to their full potential - academically, socially and personally. We instil in children a lifelong love of learning. Our strong academic focus is supported by a multitude of extra-curricula activities and programs such as Physical Education, Visual Arts, English as an Additional Language (EAL), Music, Language (Italian) and Intervention programs.
Preston West is committed to improving the achievement of all students through the provision of challenging and engaging academic program based on the Victorian Curriculum and reflecting world wide best practice for 21st century learners. Students are nurtured in an environment characterised by high and positive expectations with opportunities for participation, leadership, goal setting and problem solving.
At Preston West Primary School we actively foster a school culture that is supportive of teachers, parents, and students and reflects our values LEARN- Leadership, Excellence, Acceptance, Respect and Never Give Up. Community involvement in the school at various levels is welcome and ranges from assisting in classrooms, participating in Parent’s Club events to involvement on School Council. Parental and community input is seen as a vital component to the success of our school.
